Geography
China is located on the eastern part of Asia. It is bordered by Mongolio and the Siberian land mass to the north, Korean peninsula to the east. The East and South China Seas, along with the Korean Bay and Yellow Sea make up the coastline of China and is home to various port cities. The country's terrain ranges from high mountainous ranges in the west and gradually descending into plains and coastal lands to the east.

Context Area: Political History and Reform
The People's Republic of China (PRC) was founded in 1949 after the Communist Party defeated the previously dominant nationalist Kuomintang in a civil war. The Kuomintang retreated to Taiwan, creating two rival Chinese states - the PRC on the mainland and the Republic of China based on Taiwan. The current President of the People's Republic of China is Xi Jinping who came into presidency in 2013 after serving as Vice President under the former President Hu Jintao. Currently the only Communist party-led state in the G-20 economic grouping. China is lead by a committee of seven men known as the Politburo Standing Committee, headed by Xi Jinping. The ruling members are not chosen by the people of the Republic, but are chosen by 205 member Communist Party Central Committee who are representatives for the 82.6 million Chinese Communist Party members. Thought communist country many are striving to unite the country and are not simply sitting back and allowing the party to dictate. While the party continues to be called Communist, the ideas and practices of the party are more Socialist and based on Confucianism.
